We started a poem about our culture, ethnicity, and what we identify with. It had a topic and 2 subjects. We also had to include a number of literary devices. The poem has to be a full page long with 40+ lines.
We read the poem Harlem by Langston Hughes. We analyzed what this poem meant and how it relates to ourselves. It has a meaning of what a dream could do when it is put off. We then did a sheet about our dream and how to achieve and the challenges that may come with it. We shared some of these answers throughout the class.
We reviewed a poem by Langston Hughes, it talked about what America is for all types of groups. We answered what it meant to be American and what America represents. We then analyzed the poem on a deeper level to understand the meaning back then and how it relates to today.
We did our bell ringer for Black History Month, we also stated what colors represented our culture. We watched videos about the person and talked about respecting culture. Examples were said and we also watched a clip for a reference.
We viewed more presentations and they consisted of playlists and what the characters trash consisted of. We also started a bell ringer based on Black History Month, featuring Denzel Washington.
We did a couple of the presentations and then it did not work, we then did a little question on pages 136-146 of The Sorrow of War. This is giving us a greater understanding of our classmates way of thinking and our understanding of the text. This lesson provided another day of learning to understand other points of view in the world. I learned many of my classmates think like me.
We took a mid book test that covered material we have read. We also continued on our character projects in where we have to create a PowerPoint with things in it based on the character.
We finished up our quote analysis assignment by doing the same thing as yesterday. I got 7 quotes in total done and the quotes were from pages 108-122.
We started our quote analysis assignment and we had to follow a formula to analyze the quotes. We had to find a quote, the theme to the quote, the analysis of the quote, the conflict of the quote, and the meaning of the quote.
