We submitted our literature assignments and then we started to present them. We got through 4 presentations that consisted of luminary, 2 questioners, and 1 summary. We answered the questions throughout the class.
We were separated into groups and we read a portion of The Sorrow of War. We took notes as a group on each little section of the book. We also got our own literature circle assignments that we had to do in addition to the notes. I got the questioner assignment.
We read an article about an interview with MLK describing how the landscape of civil rights has changed. It involved the change of peace to violence and the problems in the north. We then watched the interview which talked about the same things and answered questions based on it.
We did a review through Kahoot on the part that we read for homework. After that we read the next “chapter” and answered questions about it. It went into the other side of Kien who yearns for the war to end.
We started off writing a paragraph based on what we read for homework yesterday. Kien lost all the people he played cards with and the soldiers smoked the flowers. We then read pages 16-25 which contained information about who Kien is internally. We answered questions based on the reading and then we defined 3 of Kien’s character traits.
We started reading The Sorrow of War. We read pages 3-8. The character Kien is a soldier on the side of Vietnam. He has seen things and he is one of the only ones out of his original group to survive.
We got an introduction to the Vietnam War. This helped us with the upcoming book The Sorrow of War. We got a background for Vietnam too. All of this information will help us understand the book better and the characters better.
